#MakeASplash

Stroodles are not just a straw company. It is a movement.

Stroodles aim to help fight plastic waste and straws are just our first channel of choice.

Scientists estimate there are over 8.3 billion plastic straws polluting our oceans, that’s a number we can’t even picture. Knowing that, we want to make a change!

We’re at a pivotal moment where we must act now to help make a positive change for our planet. That’s why Stroodles has partnered up with Clean Ocean Sailing to #MakeASplash in the fight against plastic waste in our oceans.

Join our Sail Design Competition and help us #makeasplash

This year Clean Ocean Sailing will even be venturing to the Isles of Scilly, and we need your help.

Our restored sailing boat, Annette, will carry out their important mission. But she needs a new sail. This new sail will propel her over thousands of miles for the next 10 to 15 years, enabling Clean Ocean Sailing to reach otherwise inaccessible parts of the coast to clean up.

We’re calling on artists with a vision for happy, healthy oceans to submit sail designs for the Clean Ocean Sailing team. The brief is to submit a piece of visual art reimagining a more sustainable future and an ocean free from plastic pollutants!

Submissions can be in any artistic medium but must be submitted digitally by uploading it below.

Stroodles would love you to share your work on your social channels!

Please tag @stroodles_straws and @cleanoceansailing, and use #MakeASplash so we can see and share your work!

Design Specification

  • Submit a sail design that reimagines a more sustainable future and an ocean free from plastic pollutants.

  • Your design needs to be portrait.

  • The background colour of the sail will be black, but don’t worry about it for your design, as we can adapt it after.

  • Your design will be featured on the right half of the sail (currently blank area, as shown in the picture)

  • The bigger your design the better! As the sail will only be seen from far away, small details won’t be seen

  • Your design should be submitted to A4 portrait dimensions, 300 dpi, with enough space to allow for cropping

  • Make sure that there aren’t any important details on the borders of your design (as we will crop the design to fit onto the sail)

  • Remember that the sail will be blowing in the wind! Take this into mind when designing your sail, as sometimes your design might bend.

  • This competition is open for anyone to enter - any age and any design capabilities! We are more than happy for designs to be drawn on an A4 piece of paper – just scan and send!

  • Please note, if the winning design is hand-drawn on paper, we will work with you and a designer to create a digitised version of your artwork!
